RE: What do you think of this concept? - 6/29/2001 18:24:00
Greetings went through it ( so you've got another "new customer" gorilla_again - a guy with cravings for banana chocolate and coffee ) worked a treat, nice smooth system I thought, seemed quicker too.Scattered oodles of references to testing throughout it, mind you what I put in as my address "New Nest" "The Jungle Quarter" Wellingborough" UK was probably a dead giveaway FYI: Addresses in this format work for UK posting thus my office is : 37b Victoria Road, Wellingboruough, Northants NN8 1HH UK Scandinavian ones are a bit more precise - finicky and often got wrong by non-Nordics :
Gorilla AB Somtehinggade 11 2tv DK1234 Randers Danmark Something every USA company I've ever dealt with tends to get wrong is the bit that says: Somethinggade (Street Name) 11 (Building Number) 2 (Floor Number) TV (The door on the Lefthand side) If you omit the 2TV 3TH STV STH or whatever then it's not properly addresssed and will either be sorted by hand (adds significantly to delivery time) or on occasion not delivered at all. This might seem like a digression but I've known otherwise fine companies to be badly flummoxed by this sort of thing. At one time the International Postal Union had a publication listing the correct address formats - don't know if they still do. What *I* do now is just hit the web find a site for a company in Outer Mongolia or wherever and follow that format entering it into the scheme shown below. All of this is apropos of the country field your solution works perfectly but I cant help wondering if a link to a separate page for non USA/Canada that had fields something like this: Name Company Address line 1 Address Line 2 Address Line 3 Address Line 4 Postcode Country mighn't be better for your purposes - I know its another page and and and.... But as it happens I suggested it to someone else in a different context a little while ago. He'd been having lots of problems with mailing/billing address format problems he implemented the scheme above and said it had "saved his bacon" I'll take my (smoked) bacon grilled and with some mustard please PS: In theory the EU will be moving to a unified addressing format - I wouldn't hold my breath 'though. Sorry 'bout all the edits my typing is particularly inaccurate today ------------------ Hope this helps :-) Gorilla aka Mark Saunders http://www.computerdriving.com Email Address: marksaunders@techie.com ======= "Gotcha!"
