Basic question - 10/26/2003 22:55:38
A friend of mine was asked to make and maintain a website for her kid's school. She got it all done, only to find out that one of the teacher's kids was told he could do it, but that the 2 of them could collaborate on it. Anyway, she downloaded his page into FP and jazzed it up and put some java script in and nicer buttons and stuff. Only to be told: 1. the work was good but it just isn't compatible with their server. Something about compatibility between html and htm. 2. something about Javascript being a no-no because of some pending lawsuit by Microsoft. I told her that it sounds like she's getting the brush off because of the teacher's kid. I told her that I'd never heard of any lawsuit for Microsoft and Java. However, I didn't know the answer to #1. What exactly is the difference between .htm and .html, if any?

Thank you for those links. I forwarded them to my friend. I told her that she should write to the school board and tell them that her time was completely wasted, even though it won't get her the job, it will at least allow her to blow off some steam and let them know that they can't do that kind of thing to people and get away with it. She spent several weeks over the summer doing the website on her own time, and that's how she was treated for her efforts :( Thanks again.
