Thanks for the great new tool. I especially like the 'Free Editor' screen. It took me a while to understand how to use, and now that I have the 'hang of it', I'll be using it often. I use the 'Printkey' utility that was mentioned in a previous OutFront newsletter to capture the entire screen, then paste it into Word.

The only thing I found difficult about this page was the notion that you cannot start with a hex value. I wanted to find a scheme for FFFFCE. Okay, the first FFFF was easy enough, but finding the right value for the saturation required a process of trial & error. If anyone knows a way to do this, I would sure appreciate it.

Davids, Do you mean you need it to display hex values, or do you want to be able to enter Hex values IN, and see what color they are?

Let's say I want to use FFFFCE as the base color. I can't enter it into Pixy's Color Scheme. I can only enter Hue, Saturation & Brightness. So, I can open Paint Shop Pro and enter FFFFCE and it gives me H=43, Sat = 255, Light = 231. This still doesn't help me much to enter numbers into Pixy's tool. Light 231/255 = 90.6%, which is not even the inverse of the 19.3% I needed in the Color Scheme picker. In the end, I was only able to set the base color I wanted in Pixy's tool by playing with the numbers for a while.

So you need something where you can type in each hex pair, (FF FF & CE) then have it display the color for you? I don't know of anything like that but PPP. I use the same thing. I do have another tool that will take any color and show you the Hex value pairs? Do you want me to post it?

Davids, Here's the tool I mentioned. It's sort of like ou812's except it's a software tool that your can download for free that sits on your desktop for when you need it. http://www.iconico.com/colorpic/index.asp

Thanks to both of you. Yes, I can do that with PSP, I can convert RGB-HSB-HEX. I really like the Pixy site, since I have no color instincts of my own, but as he says: quote:
Important note: This tool doesn't use the standard HSV or HSB model (the same HSV/HSB values ie. in Photoshop describe different colors!)...the RGB-model uses red-green-blue as primary colors, but the red-yellow-blue combination is used here. This deformation also causes incompatibility in color conversions from RGB-values. Therefore, the RGB input (eg. the HTML hex values like #F854A9) is not possible. So, you can see for yourself by going to his tool that choosing a base color by entering an RGB, HSB, or HEX is not possible. I was just hoping someone knew a way to get over this.
