Does it look professional enough to be open for business? - 6/19/2001 20:30:00
Dear Friends,

Please give me your feedback - any improvements I may need to make.

Do you think it looks professional enough to be open for business?
I just added web site packages in which I can take CC transactions.

Thank you SO much.

Herman

Hi Herman,

I think it would look better if you set your margins to zero in the body tag to get rid of the white around the sides and top.

Your top navigation effects make the page look like a jelly wobble - bit disconcerting, might be better to make them change colour rather than size.

The bottom right rounded corner is misaligned and the one top left is a pixel or so out.

Best of luck with the business.

Cheers
Andy

Hi, Herman -

Um, yeah... it's looking pretty good. One thing I would suggest in the future, though, is to try to avoid doing something that's similar to an existing site. Someone noticed your site is a bit like mine... which may be coincidence, but it's best to come up with something original.

www.pirated-sites.com lists sites that have had their design ideas copied, or possibly copied. We came across this site not long after someone took an original design of Katherine's, changed it slightly, and made a so-called "original" design for their own client. I have to say that some of the sites listed don't look overly similar to the "originals", and on those I would question if they are going overboard (some sites are bound to resemble others a little), or if the "copy" made enough changes that it no longer looks copied. I think that quite often it's the latter.

If you did like my design enough to use part of the look in your site, I am flattered and I am glad to see you trying new things, such as the "rounded table" look... I'd just rather see you make it more your "own" look. If that wasn't the case, please don't be upset by my post. After the problems Katherine and Andy (from Spain) have gone through with having their designs stolen, I welcome a chance to get on my soapbox about this.

Whichever the case, you'll need to take a look at your site in Netscape. The table borders are showing and the red line is gray.

Linda

Thanks Andy for the feedback
Please take a look again to see if I did it right and also if you think the site flows well eg to get the order.

Regards

Herman

Linda,

Yes, it does look a LITTLE like yours, however it was never my intention to copy it - I liked the rounded corner approach (which I now see alot)and tried to come up with a similar design with a clean look.

BTW a great resource I found for the corners was:
http://www.freewebmasterhelp.com/tutorials/corners/

Since I am in the beginner phase of design I will be changing designs alot as I learn more.

Thanks for your comments

Herman

I thought I saw this the other day except in bright yellow, or was that something else?

David - I'll bet that was template #2 from Katherine's charity site (template no longer up... it lost the vote).

Herman - Thanks. The new logo looks fantastic. Going along with that look for some top nav buttons would be cool. Take a look in high res... your nested table isn't stretching out as far as it could.
