Please critique our web page, www.go2thebars.com. I have designed the page with FrontPage and use an Access database to store our bar & restaurant information. Any constructive criticism would greatly be appreciated.

Hi,

Here's a few of my personal thoughts:

- the frames don't add much to the site, the scrolling bars spoil what looks like a smart site - you also need some NOIFRAMES content.
- Including other sites in your frames make them impossible to see correctly - much better and more ethical to open them in a new window
- The top frame is too wide - makes the content below hard to follow with all the scrolling that's necessary.
- I'd lose the hover buttons in prefernece to mouseovers/rollovers, there's a link in the FAQ above.
- Some of the darker text and text links are hard or impossible to read on a black background - better to use a cream, light green or whatever.
- The navigation is a bit tough, as there's no indication of which page is being viewed.

Like I said, should be a smart site and a lot of work must have gone into setting it up but my personal feeling is it needs a lot of changing around.

Cheers
Andy

Hi I tried to look under opera but the applets crashed my browser - a regular occurrence with applets in fpsites. (Many firewalls hate them too.)

PS: I also tried to look using internet explorer - browser crashed.

Hope this helps :-)

After my firewall dodged a cookie, I got this:

This page uses frames, but your browser doesn't support them.

My browser (Opera) does support frames, but I don't so I keep that "feature" turned off.

The view as a casual site visitor:

Ya know, this could be a fantastic site but in my opinion, there is too much schlock. Reminds me of going to msn.com or iwon.com. Simply too much stuff on the page ... especially the frames on the right. Didn't see much functionality or need there.

I humbly suggest that you take some of that stuff off or move it elsewhere so that a visitor can "get the message" right off and not have to be visually overloaded with sidebars and other advertisements.

Personally, I will move on to another site if I have to spend a lot of time reading every little detail on the main page and do a lot of scrolling.

I really like the idea of this site and I really like some of the colors and logos, etc. But it has to be simple and functional .... that's the key. Let there be no doubt as to what the site is about.

Fortunately, I'm from Chicago so I readily identified the addresses, but if I was a really casual visitor, there's no indication as to what city is being referenced here.

Hope this all doesn't sound too brutal... because I really think it's a very good site.
Insert really whiny voice here: "just tidy it up"

OBTW, I used IE to get there, and had no problems whatsoever.
