It's the end of my day so I took a quick tour. I noticed Alt tags on the left pane but not on text links and images. SO far so good. Underlined text always makes me click in case I might be missing something, so I feel like I been fooled again. (but I'm getting used to it 8-) ) I noticed "Library Text Catalog" got locked up in TelNet, but that could be just my setup.

I like the Virtual Tour and the fact you remembered to take us back or to Home. I tried clicking in the map first, then taking the tour from down below. It might be easier to navigate if Home were seperated from the arrows (forward and back) by putting them on different lines or just more spaces. It slowed me down a bit there, and some folks will have trouble hitting the arrow insted of home.

The Tab key works fine during the tour (instead of the mouse) but I had trouble tabing around in the map layout (I couldn't tell where I was except for the address at the bottom). Maybe some sort of tage to tell where the tab stopped?
All in ALL a rather complete site!

Hi Raj.

I just have to say this: you really didn't need frames. They don't add a thing. Please read this article for some of the drawbacks and for reference to be sure you have done them correctly if you have to keep them: http://www.useit.com/alertbox/9612.html

It is more professional if you keep all backgrounds and design styles the same.

The navigation needs some help, too. Once I started on the virtual tour I became hopelessly lost and couldn't get back to the main part of the site.

Did you happen to try saving the map as a .gif? You would probably get a clearer graphic and possibly cut down on file size.

I'd recommend reworking it, but it really has a lot of great information. It's worth some more effort. Based on what I saw on the site, I think you can do a bang up job with it.

One of the reasons I used frames was that I wanted the links to stay on the left side no matter how far down the page you went, when useing shared border if the page content was longer than the links you'd have to scroll all the way back up to get to the links, But I did make sure when ever a link is leaveing the site it breaks the frame or opens in a new window. Is there a better way to do this??

When a link breaks the frame, do you have adequate navigation to return to the main part of the site? Remember, navigation should be a no-brainer for the site visitor.

Frames are not the scourge of the Internet, but it takes some extra thought and work to get them right.

Personally, I prefer a simple row of text links at the bottom of the page.

Also, instead of shared borders I use include pages because they are more flexible.

Any link that leads to an external address other than one in my web opens in a new window, I will try fooling around with the include page feature too see how that works out!

Raj, when I spoke of breaking frames I was thinking of the virtual tour.

I think you'll like include pages. They are really easy and most effective.

Hang in there.

I liked your site (sight!) a lot - I felt that in this case the frames did detract. Some people have an unreasoning love of 'em (my business partner who'll do everything in frames at the drop of hat and drop the hat himself ) and some are at the opposite extreme. Personally I try to avoid them, i discovered the "joy of include pages" courtesy of here and think you'll find 'em very useful.

the only thing that jarred me a little was the consistency thing but you alread yknow about that - good luck!

Hope this helps :-)
