Please critique our new .org site - 6/23/2001 20:57:00
We will be going public with this site in the next week or so. Thanks to folks in the Outfront forums, I was able to put together what I hope is a simple, but useful site for our youth soccer league. I'd love to get some feedback before we launch. THANKS!

PS Is there any way to get that top banner at the very top of the page?

Looks very useful to me! You've included lots of information and organized it in a really easy to follow way. Not sure about the banner at the top, does it have something to do with margins, maybe? I looked at your souce and saw "body background="file:///C:/DataStore/Webs/tpsl/images/mainbkgndhome.gif" -- did some image not make it live? Your group is very lucky to have you doing this for them.

Thanks! Yes, there is/was a background image of soccer goal netting that didn't make it. It's a recurring problem of defaulting back to the c:\drive image rather than the image location on the server. BUT, after looking at it this time without the background, the family opinion is the site looks cleaner without it.

Hi Steve,

If you want to get the banner to the top, locate this line in HTML view <body onload="dynAnimation()" > and change it to <body onload="dynAnimation()" topmargin="0" marginheight="0">

I like the netting as a background. It's quite easy to get around the site but I'd add text navigation to the bottom of each page and as a personal thing, I'd use other types of buttons, these ones look a bit drab.

Last point is I think the site is crying out for some photos to jazz it up a bit - some football shots would look great on a lot of the pages.

I just read this : NEVER criticize a referee's decision (learn the laws of the game) - I thought that was half the enjoyment of watching football

Best of luck with it.

Cheers
Andy

I agree with Andy that the site needs photos! I'm guessing the season hasn't started, but perhaps you could wrangle some from people from last year? Then as the season progresses, add current photos. I'm sure a lot of people will visit your site just to see their pic, not to mention grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends...

I did't look at the whole site, but happened on the page about buying shoes. I would recommend keeping your main navigation on all pages.

Best wishes,
Sandy

Hi I looked at it using opera. Nice site.

Yes please - consistency of navigation is essential.

I'd suggest that you don't use a serif font like Times New Roman. Sans serif fonts like Verdana, Arial, Tahoma to name three very widely used ones are easier to read. I had a look at your source code 'cos i though you'd used the space bar to get positioning - and sure enough! it's very tempting but it's a real no no simply because the results are very unpredictable not only between different browsers but even between versions of the same browser. Try using the <blockquote> tag instead - the indentation buttons on the standard toolbar will do this for you.

Hope this helps :-)

These are great comments and I've fixed the banners, changed the fonts and am working on spacing, etc.

Again, thanks for all these great suggestions!
