Bulk Email a Newsletter - 11/4/2003 17:10:51
Can anyone give me some info on bulk emailing a newsletter?
I have a client that wants to create a newsletter, than email it to all of his clients.

The newsletter is no problem.
The problem is setting him up with something that emails them all out at one time.

He bought "Group Mail PLUS".
Looks like half the problem is solved.
But the sending is the issue.

My question is:

What does he need to bulk send them out?

He's currently using a cable connection that allows him to send out 50 at a time. Not good enough. He needs to be able to send out 5000 at a time. Is it a matter of buying time on someone elses server, or going public domain himself, or another type of internet connection, or something???

Thanks
LLLuneeeee

It's not the total number of newsletters you send out, it's the rate at which you send them that is critical here. It needs to be a low number, or any number of ISPs will block your newsletter.

I use Mail Max: http://www.smartmax.com/

If you're NOT on a Windows box, you have a thousand better choices: http://www.list.org/

In both instances, what you're buying is list management software. You just set the list to nosend so that only the administrator (your client) can send email to it.

I use Constant Contact (www.constantcontact.com). They are HTML template based newsletters and they track click through rates, help you manage bounces, send an autoresponder on sign up.

It's a pretty sweet program.

DarlingBri,

1): Sorry about the double post. The first one I posted about 3 hours earlier, no-one answered. I thought maybe it was in the wrong forum. So I redid it here. I tried to delete it. But it's frozen now.

2): This is the one area of web development I do not have a handle on. Sadly.... :)

I'm going to look the link over you gave me. Unfortunately, the client is on a Windows box which I guess narrows down the choices.

Do you mean the # of newsletters sent per minute? It has to be low? What do you think is a good rate is?

Thanks :)

Cooper,

I'm going to check your link out too.

Thanks :)

Thanks for the links guys but Group Mail Plus did the trick. I got the software from the owner of the site, installed it on my machine, set all the server configurations for my ISP cable email server. Loaded in a list of 2000 addresses, pressed send and it sent the html newsletter to all 2000 email adddresses in about 9 minutes. I watched in amazement. This turned out to be just what we were looking for. :)
