Please take a look! - 7/10/2001 17:07:00
Working on a website for my brother-in-law at http://www.nutsaboutnascar.com , he sells NASCAR and sports related items and needed a website that was easy for him to add products to his catalog. He had found a NASCAR only site but they wanted $1,800 and a monthly fee...ouch. So after looking around for awhile I checked back with MIcrosoft's bCentral. We are just now working on the site, but it is so easy, so far, for him to add products to his catalog. I know there are better options but for the price and the ease for him, you can't beat it. He needed control to add and delete products on his own with ease and this offers it to him. I can change just a few things with FP 2000, and have added a few graphics that he wanted on the top of the home page, and added the mailing list code that bCentral provided. But when I did it changed the text in the paragraph below the link. Now it is a different font or size than the text at the top of the page. Any ideas appreciated!

Thanks!

LB

Hope you weren't getting discouraged by the lack of response...

I would suggest doing your top part for all pages just the same as on the catalog page and do away with the page banner.

If you have larger images to start with, I'd keep the logos on the home page larger... maybe almost double the present size.

The banner could do with a redesign as it looks a bit blurry.

Be sure to have the text anti-aliased and design it in the same size you'll be using (resizing text graphics often doesn't work well). The outline of your page banner would look cool for this. You could do a screen capture or bring that image into your graphics program and cut out the left end of the banner to start your new graphic with.

Let us know how it goes with bCentral. I didn't notice anything added yet?

Linda

Aha! That's why the graphic looked blurry... you DID resize it. I do think using the web site colors on it would look cool.

I don't think I can do away with the page banners. Not sure though! And for some reason I am not understanding what you mean by making the pages the same as the catalog page. Maybe it's becuase it's late or early morning : )

Yeah, I think they are larger images when I inserted them. I'll have to check.

Yeah I did resize the logo. He had someone make this logo ages ago, and I don't know how too! Also I tried to select the graphic and use the wand to make it match the background but had no luck.

Check the Tony Stewart driver, of course it's Stewart,Tony because that's the only way we can get it to put them in order. Also the Earnhardt have some items for sell. I want to know how you like the shopping cart as we do not have much control over the way it work's!

Thanks alot Linda!

Regarding doing away with the banner and having the header the same as on the catalog pages....

Screenshot from home page:

Screenshot from catalog page:

Just backspace over the banner if you want to delete it. I think it looks better to have the info "inside the box" rather than a page banner. If nothing else, it would streamline things... it's best to keep something like this the same from page to page.

Here's a graphic for you if you want to use it. How it was done:
- used printscreen key to capture the home page with the welome banner
- paste into image program
- cropped out the corner of the banner
- filled with black
- text tool; font used is StingRay

The shopping cart seems to be working well.

Now I have to see if I can figure out how to use it in place of the banner. I am not usr eif I can since the info resides on the bCentral server! But I will try it : ) I get back to you if I can't figure it out.

Thanks alot! Looks great!
