_VTI's? - 11/13/2003 6:43:37
Are the files within the _VTI folders actually of any use? I know FP creates these for some reason - can I effectively delete them without harming the operation of my site? Thanks

_vti's are frontpage files. I'm not sure exactly what they do but they are created when you access a directory with Frontpage. I've deleted them without any problems, but if you use frontpage they will show up again on next access. Scott

Don't delete _vti files or folders if you use Frontpage.

judging by the title of the book the founder wrote it was an adequate price This is getting pretty far off topic but... Their choice was to sell to MS (for a fair price) or be left with a product that would not work on 95% of the worlds PC's... or so the story went (It's been a while...) Compare the sale price to the revenue that a per seat license would have generated if MS would have contracted with them, or if they would have remained independant... then how fair does it seem? Then again, the success of Front Page probably would not have been as notable had it not been bundled with MS software... I'll have to check out that book and get his perspective, rather than rely on the knitting circle of rumors known as Internet news websites. Cool link Doug, thanks. <edit> Heres a quote from his book: quote:
"...within a few years, virtually all Web servers will be Front Page enabled, and Microsoft will be on its way to secruing yet another monopoly. No, this does not make me totally happy, but as you'll see, we had little choie. Netscape Under Jim Barksdale was out to lunch, and Microsoft would have killed us if we tired to go it alone." http://www.amazon.com/gp/reader/0812931432/ref=sib_dp_rdr/104-4622760-8085553#reader-page
