SEO - Point of diminishing returns ? - 11/14/2003 16:54:07
Right now I'm trying to make a decision if I'm going to concentrate on Search Engine Optimization or use Google AdWords to promote a site. So I'm kind of just thinking out loud here and was hoping to get some opinions and advice. Is there not a point of diminishing returns with SEO if there are gazillions of other sites with the same subject as yours, particularly in a field where the big boys have lots of money to spend on SEO? thanks, gail

It is always going to reflect on just what you stated...the big boys and money. I have never paid for SEO, just invested time and pain. However I have invested in PPC (read ad words). I think a blend is key for my sites. I target the main keywords but I also target lesser traffic words. I made a post last month about throwing a big net. I made a sale off a keyword that only had....fewer than 100 returns on MSN. If for a client they would need to weigh heavily on the possible ROI VS. PPC ROI. Brian

Again, I can't compete with the Big Boys but am thinking of giving this a try. The nice thing is that you don't pay unless someone clicks. quote:

For me, I don't sell anything at my site so I depend on the ads to generate some income. Was thinking to try AdWords to get more people to the site. gail

As long as I am in the top three I am happy. Once the site is producing I drop the ad words campaign. It's a void filler for my purposes. Brian
