Search Engine Secrets Net - Review please! - 7/19/2001 21:33:00
I am close to having my new site "finished" and is about to start promoting it. But I`m sure there are room for some improvements first: http://search-engine-secrets.net/

Any help/suggestions for improvement of site design, content, typos, or anything else you would like to comment on would be very helpful.

Thanks i advance, I`m looking forward to your suggestions.

Regards,
Ronny Skog

Hi.

The first thing I noticed is the margin around the top, red area. If you would like to get rid of it, insert the following in your body tag:

leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" rightmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0"

I would try to close up the white space between the header area and the body.

However...The thing that stuck in my craw was the poor grammar. OUCH! "If your web site don't have...." "Does people see...." And in the list with the numbered steps, none of those are complete sentences. They should not have periods. "Catching misspellings: Don't waste to much time...." ...wrong to. I would suggest looking the site over carefully for those types of errors.

The pages have a side-to-side scroll at 800x600 in NN 4.7, probably because of the size of the form field. NN reads fields larger than IE does.

I saw some words on a page that were underlined but were not links. People will assume they are links. To emphasize them, since they are in an italicized context, make them normal.

Overall, the information is clear and well organized.

Good luck with it.
Sandy

For the first time in my life I can say that I agree with a 'Goober' (sorry, couldn't resist)

The first thing I noticed was the incorrect grammar...I hate to say it, but it sticks out like a sore thumb. Especially in areas that you have in bold to catch the user's eye. In the box in the bottom, left hand corner of the home page it states..."It's a well KNOW fact" instead of "KNOWN". (This is just one instance of many...)

It may seem minor, but many people will immediately lose confidence in the content of your site.

Also, the popup box, when you hover over the 'Privacy Policy' link cannot be read without first scrolling all the way to right (IE 4.0), and then placing the cursor over the link. (It shouldn't need to scroll, since all the content was in view.)

Good Luck,

SuperConductor

Interesting I find your critique request. I just found your site a couple of days ago to help me understand my server logs. It was very helpful. One of the best I've found yet.

Thank you all for your suggestions. You have been very helpful. I`m working on a modified site design based on the feedback from this and some other webmaster forums. Seems like there is much room for improvement

The English grammar is causing problems though. English is not my first language (I`m from Norway), so will probably need some help on this.

Perhaps someone would be willing to proof-read my site in exchange for free banner advertising on the site?

Hi Ronny,

I would gladly proofread and offer corrections or suggestions. And there is no need for any exchange. In fact, I think most everyone here will do the same. This is a very helpful bunch.

Good luck and let us know when you're ready for a review.

Cheers
