Broken Includes - 11/19/2003 11:32:18
I have a thread posted on the Beginner Web Dev. Forum - actually it is below and MOVED - Ready to Jummmp! Anyway after trouble shooting it appears that the problem is the broken includes on my Frontpage Server. betheball referred me to a site the I found the following: broken includes From: Cindy@gps4fun.com Date: 24 Feb 2003 Time: 15:45:36 -0500 Remote Name: 68.159.144.2 Comments My website is hosted by a service running Red Hat 7.2 and Frontpage 2002 extensions provided by RTR I beleive. They recently upgraded to Frontpage 2002 Server extensions along with other upgrades. Following this upgrade we exerienced the symptoms listed in Mirosoft article No 2989360. The symptoms are: After you upgrade your Microsoft Internet Information Services-based Web site to FrontPage 2002 Server Extensions or SharePoint Team Services from Microsoft, the include components and shared borders are not displayed correctly. The body of the main page is displayed as part of the shared border or the include component, appearing to duplicate data throughout the page. Also, after you insert a PhotoGallery or an Include page, you see the path to the page rather than the content of the page. In Normal view in FrontPage, the page appears correctly, but when you view it in a Web browser, you see only the path. Does anyone have any resolution for this problem - I can seem to find one anywhere. Of for that matter how I could begin to diagnose and resolve such and issue? Thanks as always any help is appreciated! Brian

I'm guessing they got that information off the microsoft site, which also includes the fix for the problem. http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299360&Product=fp10se If they haven't done so already, it looks like they need to install a patch. Good luck, Gayle

Thanks all, this definetly looks like the issue. Now the hunt continues because as usually, wonderful Micro$oft makes references to something that does not exist in a Knowledgebase article. At least I can't find the: FrontPage Server Extension 2002 SR 1.1 patch WTH! Well thanks again. Onward. Brian

RE: Broken Includes - 11/22/2003 12:39:50
Well, the patch has definetly broken more then it fixed - at least for now. I'm fairly sure that I have done everything correctly. Nonetheless I receive the following errors in my apache error log. [Sat Nov 22 12:12:02 2003] [error] [client 65.209.1.97] attempt to invoke directory as script: /usr/local/frontpage/version5.0/apache-fp/_vti_bin/fpexe [Sat Nov 22 12:12:39 2003] [error] [client 65.209.1.97] File does not exist: /usr/local/frontpage/version5.0/admin-exes/ And behond there is no /admin-exes directory hence problably why I can't get to my FP admin (hehehe) The reinstallation (patch) appeared to go OK. But my web http://www.brianchapin.com is more borken then ever. Defintely appears as if the extensions are not installed ot installed correctly. Does anyony have any advise. Thank, Brian

Our site is hosted on IIS 6 running on Windows 2003 server, and we're experiencing the problem where the path to the include page is displayed instead of the include page content. This feature WAS working until recently, and I should point out that the include page is an absolute path to a different domain, although on the same web server. I'm assuming the patch referenced here is for unix servers only? Any other ideas on how to address this problem? Thanks
