Moving a Sharepoint site to a new server - 11/22/2003 10:07:13
I have a rather large intranet for our medical practice that runs on a Windows 2000 server with IIS. The site has multiple asp pages which access various databases within the web. I also have sharepoint enabled and have multiple document libraries, and several sharepoint subwebs. All in all, this is about 230 MB of content. I need to move the entire site to a new server. I have set up another server with W2K Server, and IIS, and installed the FP2002 server extensions. When I published the intranet to the new site, Sharepoint does not work at all. The defaultshare.htm home page displays completely blank, although it appears OK when I open it in FP editor. None of my asp pages work either. The databases and their connections appear to be OK when I check Tools>web settings>databases. I have read the MKSB article on moving a Sharepoint site (315845) and have installed the Office XP Service Pack 1 on both servers and the desktop PC that I am using with FP. It also indicates that various items are not migrated and must be recreated, including document library templates, and permissions. Unfortunately, since I cannot view the defaultshare.htm home page, I cannot begin to recreate the document libraries. When I try to publish, I get the error message: "Server error: The server extensions were unable to access the file frontpg.lck. Please check the file permissions". I have researched this and am going to try to fix this, but I think there is more going on. Has anyone else had experience with transferring a sharepoint enabled web site to a new server? I really need to move this site as several of the hard drives in the RAID array are going down and we want to use this server for something else.
