ymv13 -> How do I fill a table with an image? Resolved (11/30/2003 9:51:28)

Hi

This is my first visit.

I am a newbie when it comes to web design & have recently published my fist site. http://fp.ymv13.plus.com

I'd like to spruce it up with tables that are filled with an image or background tile but can't work out how to do it.

I'm using Frontpage 2002.

I've opened a new page and added a table. As I only want the design inside the table I've right clicked table properties & expected to be able to check the use image box so that I could browse for a suitable image. However, this option is grayed out & I can only select solid colours.

What am I doing wrong?

Hope someone can help me.

I'm still relatively new here too.

There should be a check box, whether on cell or full table. Once you check it, then you can browse to insert your pic.

There is a 'Use Background Picture' check box but it's grayed out.[sm=help.gif]

I am at a loss. I upgraded to FP2003 so I can't even run a setup to see what might be the cause. One of the experts will have to help you. I would like to know why too.

you can find what you want here

and your particular situation is explained here

Thanks Skip.

Only problem is I know nothing about HTML, so the coding in the web page linksare like a foreign language. I only use Frontpage, because it came with my Office XP package & it's (more or less) easy to use without having to understand how it works behind the scenes.

Is there any way I can resolve the problem by tweaking frontpage?

click in the table cell then go to menu
insert>picture>from file
you can then browse for your image

you can add a hyperlink to other pages, click on your new image in cell, and pick the hyperlink button on your tool bar, then select the page from the list

I've tried your suggestion of inserting picture and it works.

The only problem is that if the image is not as big as the table it doesn't fill it. Also, would I be able to put another table on top so that I could get a border effect like you see on so many web sites.

Sorry for so many questions.

I've solved the problem.

To get the 'use background picture' check box to work, you have to select tools>page options>compatibility & ensure that the browser selection is set to Microsoft only or custom as Netscape does not recognise the image background facilty.

Found this after lots of searching in the help files.

Thanks for all of the suggestions to resolve the problem.

This is a great forum & I think i will be visiting often.
