RE: downloading a file - 12/3/2003 9:31:51
I can download it to my desktop top just like you said. But....it will not allow me to burn it to a CD-rom using Win. XP. I open the file in WMP and go to copy to audio device. But it stops there. Any suggestions?

asx is a playlist file used by windows media player. The location of the file on the playlist is: mms://bne002z.webcentral.com.au/bne_sm001/interviews/Gary_Gray/Encouragement_Tools/Gary Gray Encouragement tools part 2.wma Download that then burn it to CD, should work, provided you CD burner supports WMAs

wow! How do you know that location? It worked perfectly. The reason I ask is that there are 6 more recordings just like that which I would like to burn to a cd. thanks Jeremy

You download the file to your hard drive. Left click it once to hilight it. Hold down Shift Key, and then click "Open With". Browse to "Notepad". Make sure that "Always use this to open the file type" is UNCHECKED. Click OK.

The only link I have is what i provided in my first post. I do not know how to download that to my hard drive because if I paste that link in my web browser, it just opens it up to play. Can you start me from there? thanks!

Right click the link and "Save Target As". Many people don't realise that with windows, you don't have to open the file to save it, but can actually save by right clicking and using "Save Target As".

That's just it, there is no link on the web page. It is only a windows media player with two buttons, one that says dial-up and one that says high speed. Even if I try and right click on high speed button, it saves the file as a .html. So I found the link by going to view-source which opened up notepad. Hope that makes sense.

When you right click, and use "SAVE AS" use the little drop down arrow and select "ALL FILES", then type in the name and extension you want to save it as: IE: file1.avi OR file1.wma etc. Or you can do what you did for this one. Use View Source, get the link, and then send them to yourself in email so you get a clickable link, and right click it from there. I can right click and "Save As" from the link you posted above. If that doesn't work, I don't have any other suggestions. Perhaps contact the site owner and ask them how you save them to your hard drive. It's entirely possible that they don't want you doing that and have taken measures to prevent you from doing so.

Jeremy The website owners have set it so your not supposed to be able to download the individual tracks, they have it so that you can listen to them, but try this: The playlist file (your .asx file) will have reference to the tracks, and they will generally be in the same web-directory as each other for simplicity. If you know the file name, instead of the .asx put .wma/.mp3 etc till you get the download dialog Should work, did for me

If what me and Acadia hasn't worked, I have found a program that records what ever is coming out of you speakers. Windows sounds as well. If you need it email me with your email address and I will send it to you And don't worry bout you email address being given out, It won't go anywhere but me

I have tried .mp3, .wma, and .avi and none of them worked.

Jeremy, mp3 and wma are audio, avi is Audio Video Integrated (basically a film) What I meant by try different extensions is the following: The asx file points towards a location on the web server, this location will contain audio/video files. On the asx file do the following: Ctrl+Shift+Right Click>Open With>Choose Program>Notepad In there, there will be a web address that points to a wma. Enter that into your web browsers address bar. It should start a download. That is the file downloading. If you can't do it that way, there is a program, on freeware, available from http://download.com.com it's called Sound Capture. It will record anything that comes out of you PC speakers into MP3 format Give it a go, then come back

About Form Fields & Stubborn Text Boxes - 2/5/2004 23:08:07
On my Frontpage 2002 site I have a data submission page with drop down multi choice menues. The drop down menues can be moved about and lined up the way I wish but the Text Box for submitting more detailed info cannot be moved without upsetting the entire lay out of the page. I want to center it but it seems to linger to the left. Another Text Box on the same page behaves simlilar..anchoring itself to the left hand border. And one more thing...some of my paragraphs have a first sentence thats spaced differently from the sentences to follow..thus leaving a noticable space between the first sentence and body of the paragrpah. Much appreciated any ideas and commentary! Chuck
