web spider listing #2 - 8/21/2001 14:25:00
FP 4.0

Will a "top" shared border with descriptive text and keywords be the text that e.g., "Web Crawler" uses in its listing of my site?

I got listed in the Looksmart network (MSN etc.) today. The listing is EXACTLY my meta data title and description.

From what I can tell by looking at the results of other listings, is that this spider used meta title and meta description (if description was in in meta data). If description is not in meta data, it goes on to first text on page, which SEEMS to include shared borders.

What I did was make sure that meta data and 1st 2-3 sentences of text (as seen by Search Engine Simulator) would product an acceptable listing. Different crawlers are programmed differently, this covers at least two ways.

The "spider sim" gives this discription of your site:
"solutions for small business financial professionals Agilecor's mission is to provide solutions for the day-to-day issues facing small business financial professionals. CFOs, Controllers, and Financial Analysts can find and exchange Excel and Word Templates and " Solution Packs " covering common and unique accounting and financial topics. Our Templates and " Solution Packs" will save you hours of research and model development time."

But, that "Sim" does not find or (does not list) "meta descriptions" for any site that I feed it. The Sim finds Meta keywords.
Based on what I learned today, my sites are now much closer to "spider ready." No link borders on my home page, but enough site description in plain text to sate its killer apetite before it gets to my Nav (buffet)bar at the base of the table.
