the div tag - 12/9/2003 17:11:39
I'm just starting to realize what can be done with CSS and I love it, but i'm having some difficulty wrapping my brain around the div tag. I've done some searches and found some info, but I must be slow. Can anyone explain the div tag to me and some valid examples of where i could use it?

thanks,
Lil

Hi lbg:
A div would be a container. Say your paragraphs, they could be used in the divs. A div is used in all block level elements. You can also assign classes and id's to them.

I'll give you a link to a page that has an excellent tutorial for you to work through. Since you are just starting with the css I suggest that you work through the whole section, begining and advanced.
http://codepunk.hardwar.org.uk/bcss.htm

I learned so much in their advanced section.

Create test pages for each thing that you are learning and post them up, if you are having any problems with them you can post them here and ask for help. Learning is doing, I can't stress that enough for you.

Also take a look at the homework section that I have posted in here with my homework. There are pages that have divs that you can look at and see how they are used.

Any questions please make sure that you post them as someone will be able to help you.

I learned soooo much from the code punk site, which btw was posted by the gorilla clan. One of their great postings.

You know, this is gonna sound silly, but now that i've been messing with CSS and discovering what it can really do, i'm really excited about it. This is so cool what it can do. I now understand (a little) what others have been discussing when they talk about designing an entire site with CSS.

god i'm a geek . . . :)

LOL it can be very exciting. the other night while reading c1sissy's homework thread about changing a line of text within a paragraph....I let out a whoop!

And my husband tried to look interested after being startled...but when I was explaining to him about it, he got that blank look, and I know he was thinking "Man, I need to get her out of the house more..." :)
