Search Engine Question - 12/13/2003 16:59:02
Hello everyone. Two weeks ago I have made a website that is my final project for my class. I did not fully finish it (content wise) however, I started to submit it to search engines and link exchanges after I optimized my index page for search engines. The reason I did this is because I want to surprise my teacher by getting a Google rating of 1 or something like that. Cause I’m sure that would secure me a certain A Anyway, I subscribed to web tracking service and to my astonishment I found out that I get visitors every day that find me through search engines like aol, yahoo, google, with key words like: money in stock market, how to make money with stock, learn stock market make money, etc. Like if you type: “make money in stock market” my website is sixth link on the first page. Well after this long intro my question is: I have exchanged links with some other investing sites. But when I check who is linking to me Goggle shows 0 links. But if you type coolinvesting in Google you can find websites that are listed in Google and are clearly linking to mine. Why is this happening???

Hi Blade Don't worry too much about the backlinks, this may take several Google cycles before they are registered. My site shows about 15, but I know of 30+, and that has been years. It may only register ones it feels are important for now? The main thing is that you are gunning for that A+

You will need to browse to the site with Google's toolbar installed and view the sites index page's PR. You can get the toolbar from here, you will need IE to utilize it... http://toolbar.google.com/ From the sounds of it though some of the sites are not a PR4 which means they are not considered. <edit>By the by, nice site be proud of it.</edit> Take care, Brian
