Actually alt TEXT is not needed on all images, using alt=" " is what should be used for an image that does not convey any necessary information.A screen reader will read it as a graphic not as a bullet and will say "image whaterver". Therefore the text is useless and should be taken out.

Because of the way the page is setup its reading bullets as images, probaly because of the Theme being used.

Who said it was needed? quote:

You forgot IMO quote:

ALT="Bullet" causes the screen reader (Lynx here) to say "Bullet"

Your right you did not say "needed" you said "required". My bad!Alt TEXT is not REQUIRED on ALL images a simple space between the quotes is all thats needed for images that do not convey important information. quote: Originally posted by Gil: You forgot IMO
ummmm from the W3C: quote: While alternate text may be very helpful, it must be handled with care. Authors should observe the following guidelines:Do not specify irrelevant alternate text when including images intended to format a page, for instance, alt="red ball" would be inappropriate for an image that adds a red ball for decorating a heading or paragraph. In such cases, the alternate text should be the empty string (" "). Authors are in any case advised to avoid using images to format pages; style sheets should be used instead. Do not specify meaningless alternate text (e.g., "dummy text"). Not only will this frustrate users, it will slow down user agents that must convert text to speech or braille output. {/QUOTE] I consider an image used as bullets to be a component of formating a page, what about you? [QUOTE]Originally posted by Gil: ALT="Bullet" causes the screen reader (Lynx here) to say "Bullet"
Is Lynx that important when you design? If so bravo. However consider this how would you like to hear: Bullet Dog Bullet Cat Bullet Bird Bullet Fish Bullet Zebra This could get annoying.Or how about the person that has a 40 cell braille display. It would be filled with characters that are not mandatory to convey the information.

You're correct - I mistakenly read "no alt tag needed" instead of the "no image needed" My bad this time quote: While alternate text may be very helpful, it must be handled with care. I'm not sure - I don't use images as bullets, I use billets I just had to try Lynx to see what it would do. quote:
Is Lynx that important when you design? If so bravo.
Well, I write code all day on a 'dumb terminal' for a Sun box and that's what's available to me, so I try to check sites there. I tend to over react when people don't take the ALT tag seriously - sorry, it seems you do. It is quite refreshing to know someone finds something that seams so simple to be so important.I have accessibility drilled into my head, my job deals with it every day since the main site I work on is primarily for blind and visually impaired people.
