google and page rank and keywords - 12/17/2003 17:44:38
ok, a couple of questions for people in the know... 1. is there a way to find out how many people search for certain words and phrases in a certain time period? (ie which search terms are most popular?) 2. is there a way to see what the page rank of other websites are in the categories I am going to target? (ie I want to know how hard it is going to be to get listed way up there)

With Google, what tends to matter most is content, content, and more content, followed by who links to you but more of who you link to (whether they are high traffic websites or have related content). I have never had a problem ranking very high (within the first three positions) in google for any website as long as the content was appropriate and I was not taking up the whole page with a mindless repetition of the same words or phrases. If you check out some of the high ranking sites, you will often find that they have no meta tags, save the title, and they rank higher solely because of content. Just my opinion :)

You could also try: http://www.wordtracker.com/ There is also a good article here on this I agree content makes a difference but metas can help quite a bit.

2. is there a way to see what the page rank of other websites are in the categories I am going to target? Sure is, I use it for link campaigns when factoring PR. It is the Google directory. http://www.google.com/dirhp?hl=en&tab=wd&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q= Summer is spot on IMHO. However for PR the content is illrelevant. It does not use that as a factor. However I try to provide my readers with on topic links so am perceived as an authoritative (spelling?) site for the subject. Brian
