Hello group ,well i have been using front page for 2 weeks now and have improved the site quite a bit i think , what do you think , i think the photogallery fp produces is the main draw back. as the images and all that javascript are kinda slow compared with the photo galleries that photoshop produces. please enjoy and tell me what you think http://www.artpictures.tv

Impressive home page. Made me smile. Now I was patiently waiting for the pictures to load (cause that's what you told me to do), and finally looked over to the left column that had finally finished falling/loading and realized I was supposed to click a link over there to see the pics. Perhaps a second "link to pics" button is warranted? Regards, Scotty

Hey artpics. Any attempt at creating a website is fantastic in my book. Better than not doing it at all. But I do have some suggestions that will make your site a lot better and more user friendly. Loose the snow. It's a little distracting and really adds nothing to your site. Your image formatting on the main gallery page is off. The image of the guy on the mountainside comes up right in front of your links, basically breaking your site. Loose the dhtml text effects. I think a user would much rather get to your info than have to wait for them to jump in. Try centering your tables on the main page. It's a lot easier to follow down the center of the page and would maintain consistency. There are much better thumbnail gallery softwares out there that what FP has to offer, and free no less. Try a search on google for EasyThumbs or try Freewarefind.com for thumbnail gallery makers. I would also suggest loosing the background image. Many background images are not tiled correctly, and yours are definetly suffering from "what's my line?" syndrome. Try building your pages within a set main table. Viewable areas on browsers are different, but for the most part, it you create one main table in the centrer of the page 760px X 100 percent, you'll get a nice centered layout. In the design biz, that's called a "Stacked" layout. Your layout is called "relative," which is absolutely fine by most standards, but it seems your having a bit of problems trying to control where everything goes. For fist timers, I always suggest using tables, and plenty of them, to lay out your site. Later on, as you become more experienced, you can control the tables to do exactly what you want, and you can start moving on to css or layered designs. But for now, try the tables. You have a small consistency problem as far as fonts are concerned. Pic a font, stick with it. Use a different font for headlines or headers, but keep you content fonts the same across your website. I know I wrote a mouthfull here. (Jeez, is he kidding?) but I really liked your images, and I'm hoping some of my suggestions would help. Here at the forums, everything is done with a sense of help and understanding, so please take my suggestions as they are given, with a smile and an outstretched hand of friendship.

After looking at you site again, I'm realizing something. You used absolute positioning for your pictures. Naughty, naughty. go back to my suggestion with the tables. You'll be much happier and less stressed. Tables work just like in Excel, but....different. Try a test out first. Recreate your links page like this. In FP. Click on New Page>Empty Right click and hit Page Properties Select the Margins tab Select 0 for both margins (in FP2002) Click ok now center the cursor on the page. (You'll see that sucker right up at the top) Insert a one cell table. Right click inside the table and select Table Properties. For Alignment, click Center. Directly next to the Alignment is the Width. Click on Specify with and enter 760, and specify it as Pixels Then click on Specify Hieght and choose 100 and select percent to the left and down you will see cell padding and cell spacing. Play around with these. They determine where object reside within this tables. (Even other tables.) I would leave both at 0. That way, you can have all of the space withing to put super cool stuff. Click ok. Now the magic happens. You can put more tables within this perfectly centered Bad Ass table you just created. Play around with a 5X5 table. You can merge cells to make them headers, you can insert even more tables to do stuff with. Have fun. Just a suggestion.
