This is a result of your input! Thanks... Critique plea... - 9/19/2001 20:58:00
Hi everyone,

I've just posted up my new site at www.legaltypes.co.uk and I would appreciate your comments.

It's in frames but I (think I) have positioned it right so that it looks fine at both (!) resolutions. The vacancies pages are ASP and the site has an Access back end DB. There is a backend login site (controlled using the Spooky login - by far the best $30 I have ever spent!!!) and I customised that so that my consultants can view, add, amend and delete the vacancies that you see on the main site.

I don't know what it looks like in netscape either, as I don't have that...

I started developing web sites 12 months ago (and have been a member of this forum since then) and I'd just like to place my thanks on record again...

Anyway, comments gratefully received regarding this site.. www.legaltypes.co.uk

Thanks

Ahh, orange, white and black, (Its halloween its halloween, as sung by The Shaggs),

Nice and clean layout, frames are nasty someimes but I think you've pulled it off, except for those people using an older screen reader, they may get lost.

Your choice of font, Arial Narrow, is a good start but try using just regular Arial. Since the background is dark and the font is dark the narrowness of the text is causing it to get lost.

Plunk in some alt text on your images.

Im not sure on the form having that orange background on the input fields. See if you can use the basic white or maybe something a few shades lighter.

Change the "contact us" page title to something a little more professional sounding. "This is the contact page of the website", is like naming your dog spot, everyone has already done it.

Really nice. The colours work very well but I agree that the text might be better in plain ariel.

I think Spot is a great name for a dog, just as I think Contact Us is a great name for a contact page - precisely because it is som commonly used.

Its not the link wording I think is off its the title of the actual contact page, "This is the contact page of the website", reaks of template.

Loved the site...viewed in IE 5.5.

Very professional and very clean.

I can see the quandry about the font, though. I like the look and feel of the 'Arial Narrow', but it does make the text difficult to read. However, I also think that removing this font would take away from the site...what to do - Catch 22?

I'll leave that up to you, but you may want to look at some alternative fonts, just to be sure.

Also, you may want to look at the page title on the 'join us' page (Are you looking for an exciting career). 'Career' looks as if it is in Times New Roman on my PC (probably set to the default font of the browser). Kinda sticks out.

The orange background on the input boxes on the 'register' page is a bit too much. And you might consider moving the input controls closer to their corresponding label. I had difficulty lining up which control went with which label.

'Legal Secretary of the Year' gave me a 404 in the popup window.

On the 'about us', I would suggest lightening up Ms. Lincoln for better contrast on the page. (However, it may just be my monitor settings.)

Lastly, the page background for the leftmost pane is set to the default color, you might set it to white. There are those of us, like myself, who prefer an off-white (or other color) system background. The image w/ white background no longer matches the page background.

All in all though...excellent work...keep it up.

Nice site, very fast loading.

Only thing that I would point out is using Netscape 4.7 with screen resolutuon at 1024X768 the top navigation menu is getting cut off. About the bottom 10th of the words get cut off.

Honey, please... the font! The font!

I'm running at 1152x864 and I literally can't read it

I'm a fan of small fonts, 8pt Verdana being a fave, but this is not small, it's crammed.

Other than that, looks really good!
