My first attempt at a web-site. - 9/25/2001 20:16:00
This is my first attempt at a building a web-site. I use FrontPage 2000 and PSP 7.04. The other sites I have seen in this forum are gorgeous. I hope to someday be THAT good. For now I am just getting started. What do you think of http://www.geocities.com/i_wanna_retire_2000

First off, I must say that your "sit down and shut up page" was extremely entertaining. I loved it. But the Notting Hill review...ouch! I didn't think it was all that bad

I like the layout of the "action, comedy, drama" pages, and personally, I would prefer if the entire site followed the same layout/theme. It would make navigating around a little easier. Also, I would like to see the navigation bars centered.

I got some sort of error while trying to open the "other" page. Could just be me - not sure what that was all about.

Other than that, I'll leave the comments to the experts.

Hi Hullodare,

Very entertaining site - I also liked the "Sit down and shut up" page.

I like the layout of your homepage and would carry it right through the site with some changes - what I would do is put your main menu in the grey bar you have below your logo and then the films for each section on the right where you have the main menu on the home page.

I'd add a graphic to each film - something like the DVD cover, photo of actor whatever and maybe jazz up your ratings with some bar graph or something to show enjoyment levels.

Finally I'd think about adding a search function as the site gets bigger.

Best of luck with it

Cheers
Andy

It's really interesting to read an 'American' perspective on these films. As a sort of critique, you'd do well to link to some British-equivalent sites (my views on many of the films were kind of opposite to yours, but I love reading reviews I disagree with, it's good to have another perspective). I'm guessing, but I'd have thought there'd be quite a few americans also interested to see what British people think of hollywood films.

(But describing the Welsh guy in Notting Hill as a 'drug addict'??? Come on!??!)

Very interesting reading, I feel inspired to do an British version.

Hullodare,

Loved the site and reviews, however, I must agree with the others who have posted...I didn't think Notting Hill was that bad...but I'm a sucker for British humor.

Anyway...I looked at the site in IE 5.5 and received a number of errors when opening each page. I debugged and found the following line to be the culprit. The specific item in question is at the end of the line, surrounded by "< >".

<script language="JavaScript">var PUpage="76001075"; var PUprop="geocities"; </script><script language="JavaScript" src="http://www.geocities.com/js_source/pu2geo.js"></script><script language="JavaScript" src="http://us.geocities.com/js_source/ygIELib9.js?v3"></script><script language="JavaScript">var yviContents='http://us.toto.geo.yahoo.com/toto?s=76001075&l=NE&b=1&t=1002128657';yviR='us'; "< yfiEA(0); >"

Also, I thought the home page was very nice and clean...if each page had this same look and feel, I believe your visitors would enjoy the site that much more.

In my own opinion (as humble as possible), the pages for 'Lists' and each genre are a bit too busy with all the table borders. It seems to take away from the content.

Otherwise, very nice. I will definitely visit again.
