url submission - 1/5/2004 22:29:03
OK, I’m really confused about this. I don’t know if some as brought this up already but here it is.
I read everywhere that you should not submit your link to search engines very often as that can get you penalized. Also do not use programs like web submission gold as it can hurt you search engine position, and so on. Well, considering that anybody can submit any website they like, what if your competition starts spamming search engines with your URL in order to hurt your position!? What are the chances for something like that to happen?
Did you ever think about this???

With WPG it was a couple of different concerns, I had not heard the downside to auto submitting. Keep in mind a few SEs need a validation code that is randomly generated.

It comes down to if you query Google you violate thier TOS...

"No Automated Querying
You may not send automated queries of any sort to Google's system without express permission in advance from Google. Note that "sending automated queries" includes, among other things:

using any software which sends queries to Google to determine how a website or webpage "ranks" on Google for various queries;
"meta-searching" Google; and
performing "offline" searches on Google.

Please do not write to Google to request permission to "meta-search" Google for a research project, as such requests will not be granted."
