Accessing Network Files thru links - 1/6/2004 9:21:53
Hello All, I have my webserver on one machine which people can access from internal to my network or from the internet. When they access from the internet they have to authenticate with their domain user name. If I have a file exsisting on another server that I want to put a link to and have them access it from the internet. Any ideas? Is there an asp script (free) out there that will do a nice directory tree in that situation? Otherwise just being able to link to the one file will be fine.

AFAIK, files can only be served from the webserver. There are other ways to allow access the the other networked computers, such a VPN, but that doesn't use the HTTP protocol, which would allow you to create a hyperlink from a webpage.

Not easily. From the Intranet, your users are actually being transferred to the file server. However, from the Internet, they are not due to the firewall. Your users would have to VPN into the network to obtain the same functionality. Have you looked into a SharePoint document library maybe? This would work from both sides.
