using FP 03 to ftp fails - 1/7/2004 14:11:35
I have recently upgraded to 2003 from 2002. I also switched from DSL to satellite connection. the issue is i cannot ftp to ftp sites using FP03. They are not sites i have previously used http on, and have no FP extns required (hence the use of FTP within FP) and so i have not broken any server extns. i use the publish command ** i can however use http using FP, on those sites i use the extns on without any issues ** i state that point as i was concerned that using a satellite connection - the latency would be an issue, it appears not to be. i can see all ftp sites and move files using a dos shell, and cuteftp.....but not using FP2003....my reasoning now, is that i have an issue with the software, that i am unable to solve....... i use windoze2000pro. any ideas ?? Janie

I'm having the same problem. I can't open a site that does not have FP Extentions installed. All other sites open fine. I can open the site with WS-FTP Pro, without any problems. What's the deal that FP won't open a site without Extentions? Is there a way around it? Andrew

Janie, Andrew FP2003 for some reason tells me that I need 32bit TCP/IP networking installed to FTP to a site via the internal functions. But that's only on sites that DONT have FPSE installed. You will need to use an FTP program to upload that way. Dan

Thanks Dan. But it seems weird to me that FP won't even let me open a remote site that doesn't have extentions installed. It immediately wants to import the site, blah, blah, blah. I guess I'm just surprised that MS limited themselves in that functionality - almost forcing people to go with other editing software and non-MS FTP clients. I never thought of MS as purists. I thought it was only for the money. Drew
