If you could give us some information as to Why you are pulling your hair out it would help.

I have to let you know, I like how I don't have to click to get past your flash page. Also, I have cable, and the home page is taking forever to download last item. So I have a pretty fast connection and it isn't loading completly.

RE: Pulling My hair out - 1/11/2004 9:06:40
sorry about that :) actually, I did post but for some reason it did not take. so I will try again.

I have fp 2003 and office pro 2003 I like the products I also have macromedia studio mx and swishpics, swish 2.1 (the flash movies were made in swish 2.1) I am having problems in several areas:
1. uploading I try to publish but my server keeps closing unexpectadely, they don't even support asp (like I know how to use it yet ) Right now as I type this I have a transfer rate of 2 kb/s Wow ! hold onto your hat !

I have set up email forms for different aspects of my business and I tried to send the user information to the confirmation page (at one time I had set up one for each form) but the results I would get are EXAMPLE: Thank you [UserName] (actual confirmation form link )
I checked the forms for the proper names and even copied them to the confirmation page but that does not seem to work.

any help I can get to make this a better site for all would be great !

(um the chat room works kinda) and the forum is working too :-D

I think the header page is not loading properly I will check this after I get done.

the headerpage is in the includes directory (template I modified)

I wish that FP2003 would still show the options for shared borders it would be so much easier

thanks again for the quickresponse

The requested URL /index.htm was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Yeah, I know.
I have been trying to upload an update to the site all friggin afternoon.
first the new files would not overwrite the old files. then, the server keeps timing out. or I get a message that says that Frontpage encountered an error that it could not parse. or it says that it could not find my site on port 80 (what ever that means)

so I figured in my (very limited) wisdom that I would delete all the old files off of the remote site and reinstall them using fp2003 but every time I upload a file even a brand new htm file that I know is changed the server reverts back to the old files.

please somebody wave their magic wand and make it all better :)

It worked for me two minutes ago. The intor page is a bit bland for my liking, also, you have put very little onto the main page. The background music is very nice, but I don't really think it does anythn=ing for the site. The pop-ups are annoying, but aren't they all, and it would be nice if the music carried on throughout the whole site rather than just that page. Otherwise, I can't say much more

The page(s) seemed to work for me too though I didn't hear any music (I keep my sound off so I don't get jumped out of my chair by unwanted/unexpected music). What is the purpose of those Dell popups anyway?
Oh well, to continue. Your home page doesn't tell me anything at all about the purpose of the site and the nav didn't seem particularly intuitive to me. Then again there was all this text flying around and scrolling so I may have just been a little distracted. The mouseovers seem to get stuck every once in a while leaving your text box a mess (example below). There's also at least one page where your link images don't show at all (example below) and traveling to the "Contact" page left me with no navigation but the back button. On the whole interesting but ...
:):)

Everything showed up fine here. The flying text would be okay for one round but then I'd really like to see it stay put. The music needs an easy to find off button or some people will be leaving - you don't want to risk that. :)

Also, on the services rollover there's a different sound that comes on that seems out of place.

Hey Guys !
Thanks for the critique !

I really appreciate the feedback.
To try to answer you all at the same time.
I am working on a new design for the site I am uploading it to my site as I type
http://www.restoreatlanta.us/new_page_1.htm
some of the links work like the Featured merchant link and the home link. I kind of like this a little better than the first design.

I agree that there should be some more information on what our company does on the main page and I will address that as soon as possible.

I would like to be able to give the visitor the opportunity to shut off the music or change the selection but I don't know how yet :) I was not able to find any really good instrumental mp3s to go with this page if you know where I can find some that would be super !

as for the popup :) it was a test to see if the script worked. I will remove it and place it in the appropriate place very soon so please bear with me.

However, Dell does have some great deals on new computers now (please this is not an advertizement just a note) I may pick up the new desktop they have for $499.00 I could always use another computer

again thanks for the critique and please keep them coming they will help to ensure that my site will be user friendly and fun to use !

Troy, let me be brutally honest here. Moving text is both very 1996 and "hey, I just learned to make web pages!" If you have something to say, just say it, don't bounce it. The web is not a PowerPoint presentation.

It would appear your site is built entirely or mostly with Flash. I'm not upgrading to Flash 7 from Flash 5 just to view your site. Therefore, I have no navigation. I can't see bupkis. I get big white spaces. If I get big blank spaces, guess what search engines get? They get pretty much nothing, since there's no actual text on your site, just flash and gif images.

Regarding the music, please just lose it. I don't want to be subjected to your taste in music. If I want to listen to music, that's what I have a CD player for.

From what I can see, I have no idea what you do. It says "Professionally restoring Atlanta's homes" so I'm expecting a contractor site: About Us, Clients, Before and After Gallery, Estimates, etc. Instead I see text buttons to, umm, chat rooms and forums and guestbooks.

In short, this is not working as a site. It is not working at all. I suggest you look at this as a web learning experience and then focus on your business. As a potential customer, I don't want to see how "cool" a website you can build. I want to see a professional image, examples of quality work, customer quotes, and insurance information. And if I on't find your site because search engines hate it, I'm not ever going to see any of those things.

There are a million construction templates out there, like http://www.pixelmill.net/products/productdetail.asp?ProductID=5169 for example. If you want to professionally present your business, I think you should look into them (and lay off the flash templates!)

RE: Pulling My hair out - 1/22/2004 6:42:30
ouch !:) Hey guys , thanks for the critieque. I revamped some of the buttons and have removed most of the moving text off of the front page, I have a lot of work to do I know. Please don't take this the wrong way, but it sounds like you don't have a lot of love for flash. I can understand that. the main reason I started looking into flash is because the page size has been cut down to almost nothing under 2000kb making easier load time. Bri, My brother is going on vacation to the uk this morning so I hope your weather is good. I took out the music on the main site and will remove it from the rest of the site as well. (well maybe not the photos section :) ) The plan is to have a site with all the information that you suggested and to have a shopping mall as well. plus a section were all of us half life fanatics and get to gether. I have a new forum up that I will have all kinds of different topics in it as well. Lots to do little time to do it .
