Migration Problems with Search Feature - 1/14/2004 9:38:09
Migrating relatively large website from an old server on IIS 4 to a brand new server on Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6. Upgraded from FP2000 to FP2003 at the same time. Site hosted in-house, and I function as the site designer, content manager, and webmaster, though we have a consultant working with us on the site migration and other server issues as part of a full ground-up IT overhaul. Bottom line is that I know just enough about the webmaster part of this to be dangerous, in the full sense that Alexander Pope meant it. Anyway, I have managed to get everything working but the Search feature. I've tried the old standby, recalculating the hyperlinks, but it doesn't appear to be rebuilding the index for the site. My consultant says he has turned on the indexing services on the server, but I vaguely remember having to do something to actually create an index on the server when I did this before in IIS 4. I can't seem to input the right search sting to get at an article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base to take me through this on a step-by-step basis. So, my question is this: In Windows Server 2003 and IIS6, using FP03, what do I have to do to get this search function working on the server and rebuild the catalog on the site? If this topic is covered elsewhere in this forum, I apologize for the repetition.

Point is now moot. I went ahead and bought DPA's Site Search Engine add-on software. Well worth the $40.
