Shopping cart speed on a dial up connection - 10/18/2001 20:55:00
This e-com site is still under construction, but my client claims that the shopping cart has slowed things down dramatically. I see no difference between cart pages and regular ones on my broadband connection, so I'm hoping someone here can have a look. By the way, the client is going to use PayPal for the time being, but will soon move to AuthorizeNet. In the mean time, I've tried this site on IE5, IE5.5, NN4.7, NN6 on Mac OS 9.1, OS 8.6, Win98, Win2000 and WinNT. It all seems to work fine, except IE5.5 running under Windows won't always pass the info to PayPal. All others are fine. Strange.http://www.fernfactory.com/shop/special.asp Thanks for the help gang! ------------------ <--Your information went data way -->

I don't know how fast or slow it was before, but it's not too slow now. But, I did notice the wording on the "Checkout" page says I'm connected to a secure server and I am not - that might cause some people to run... ------------------ Gil Harvey The Host Factory Resellers are our speciality "Indecision may or may not be my problem"

I'm on less than 24k and it's a little slow, but not overly... especially considering the graphics. Overall it is not slow... it just seems slow before getting the first info on the page. If you were to redo the layout, try to simplify it and stack the tables more than nesting them... only use as many tables as is absolutely necessary. ...but if you are basically done with this, I wouldn't worry about it too much right now.I know you didn't ask for this, but since this IS critiques... consider redoing the logo on a green background so when you make it into a transparent gif it'll blend better into the fern leaves.
