inserting a footer on each page - 1/14/2004 15:38:41
Our company has a large training website built with FrontPage 2000. We now want to insert a footer onto each page that reads:

"Document must be destroyed after 24 hours of printing" .. and then show the date and time that it was printed.

How can we do this without spending months going through each page? .. and if we add new pages...how can we make this footer show?

thanks!

The easiest thing - in my amateur opinion- is to open up the index page and open up Shared Borders (Format Menu). You can make a border for the bottom and apply it to every page in the web. THen when you creat a new page, it will automatically be there; and also, if you ever need to change the wording you only have to do it in one place.

However--there may be other ways to do it. this seems to me like the simplist , easiest, and quickest thing to do....I'm sure I'll be corrected if found to be amiss in my advice!:)

hmmm

you could use find and replace. You would replace the </html> tag with something like this:

<code for an include page that has your text and also uses a time and date stamp></html>

I have not done anything like this so I would highly reccommend using a copy of the site to test it.

Also, the time and date stamps are from the time the file is viewed, not printed. For that you would need some script.

For the future pages you could just set up a template...

Ooo, that's an interesting idea!

Thanks for reminding me of another reason that I actually like using FP...Find and Replace! :-)

thanks ellipisces, though right now, I'm rather disgruntled with FP. LOL

One thing...to use your method, you'd have to find/replace the </body> tag, not the </html> tag, right?
