Can't browse subweb with unique permissions - 1/15/2004 21:53:56
After I give a subweb unique permissions IE only gets an access denied message and I have no opportunity to enter a password and username.

I create the subweb by creating a folder, right clicking and converting it a web.
Go in through tools/server/administration and set the subweb to unique permissions.

I have to remove roles from users as there is no submit button to click after I check the remove users box.

I then set up a user for authoring and leave an administrator in place and disable anonymous browsing.

Then I cannot access the web through IE. I can access through FP 2002.

I suspect that this is a problem with my provider. Has anyone experience this, or on the other hand had success with this method. I need subwebs my customers can access and traveling employees can access.

Thanks!

are you using a Windows or Linux host?

Two things I can suggest:

If you have access to the error logs, you may be able to discern the problem from those.
If not then you'll have to call your web host.

Some Windows hosts allow unique permissions, some make you call them so they can set them up, and some don't allow it at all.

If your host supports ASP then you could purchase the Spooky Login, but I'm not sure how it handles subwebs. You could post a question in the database section and Probably get an answer from Spooky himself, and he may know about your particular host. The Spooky Login can be found in Cool Tools.
