Guest book - 1/16/2004 6:40:01
Hi everyone, first post here.

I'm using FP2000 and trying to add a guest book. I've added one using the template but it doesn't work (I never expected it to yet).

The help is not much help, it says just use template and how to adjust the field sizes etc.

Do I link it to the guestlog or something similar?

Thanks
Giomanach

Have you got FrontPage Server Extensions installed?

Install the Personal Web Server from you Win98 CD that should install FP Server extensions with it. Then go to the web address of the local machine (normally http://localhost ) But make sure the Web Server is running first

Now when you go to publish the site, to test on the local machine, publish it to http://localhost Then go to that URL in your browser to use the Guestbook etc. if it works there, then the server you upload to, if the have FP server extensions installed should work with it also

Sorry, tried and failed, no pages found at all.

What am I publishing with?

I have been using FTP so far.

It's that long since I've used Win98 lol.

It should register, try publishing the files to the wwroot file on the local hard dsik then go to http://localhost

Would it help if I showed you the source code of the guest book page.

I'm sure there must be more to it than just clicking on the template and linking it to my web pages.

Oh great.

Just found out my server (BT) doesn't support ASP or FP extensions.

Is that me snookered then?

No, because you can get JSP guestbooks, you've just got to find one, and make sure your server supports it

The webspace from BTow/BTY! does not support ASP, PHP or personal CGI
(unless BTow specific ones) for home users.
or FP extensions!!

JSP is JavaScript Server Pages, it's nothing like ASP PHP CGI etc, but it does just the same, just not as securely
