CD Won't Copy - 1/19/2004 6:49:01
A client of mine wants clips of his CD to play on the site I am building for him. The CD was recorded at a concert. The clips are in .cda format. 1. First I tried to copy the CD onto another CD. I got the message that there wasn't enough room. I know this is not true because this was a new CD with plenty of room. I never get problems like this when trying to copy CDs onto other CDs. 2. I then tried to copy the CD onto my harddrive. That seemed to work. However, when I then attempted to play any of the songs off my harddrive (with Windows Media Player), I got an error message that the song is not in a proper format. When I attempted to play the exact same songs off the original CD, with the same software, they played fine. I do not know what to do. Solutions welcome. Also, any suggestions as to forums more suitable for this question are welcome.

Also, any suggestions as to forums more suitable for this question are welcome. 1. To answer that question can you tell me: What CD Burning Software you are using? How long is the original CD? What size CD's are you using? (in MB or mins doesn't matter) 2. What are you using to copy the songs over the hard drive? If you are copying the .cda file, thats why it won't work. That just holds the TOC for the cd. If doing that try using WMP Copy From CD function to convert it to WMA format, or you can use your CD burning software to "save tracks" If you can tell me that, I will be able to give you a more accurate answer Dan

If you need to rip the tracks off the cd to mp3 files, a great program that is also free is CDex, available here Then you can edit and upload the clips to your website, and link to them with m3u files for streaming. For editing, a decent free program is audacity, available here Gayle

I use MagicSoft Sound Capture, does muchmore than CD ripping, but the disadvantage to it is, it rips in real time, not any faster, so you can listen to it, whilst ripping it
