joy -> way too much time on my hands... (10/27/2001 16:50:00)

Well, I redesigned my site...yet again...and I have a Netscape problem that I don't know how to solve. These two pages get all weird in netscape, but the rest (in 6.1 at least) seem fine. I checked and double checked all the table settings, and I just don't know what's going on. Can someone please take a look?

The problem, at least with your top table, is that you have it set at 100%, but you don't have any cells set with percentages. For the cell that doesn't have a width set, set it at 100%. See if that doesn't take care of it.(BTW, NN does not read the height attribute.)

Also, if you are holding a cell open, say 10 pixels wide, you need to set the clear dot .gif to 10 pixels wide. Otherwise, in NN the cell will collapse to the width of that image (1 pixel).

I'm thoroughly confused now. I thought that with netscape, if you set a cell width to 100% and there were other cells in that row, it would display funny? Am I mis-understanding how that works?

I changed the cell width to 100% on the first page (flash.htm) and bumped up the gif sizes, but I'm not seeing any change at all when I view it. What it's doing to me is just cutting off the right side of the page entirely, and squishing the left menu into the center cell. I don't even get a side scroll. Could it somehow be related to the nested tables in the center? I tried setting their width to 100% and just not setting a width at all, and I still see the same thing both ways.

Do you have any links to more info/tutorials on netscape and tables that I can read through?

There's a little info here, but it's not exhaustive by any means: http://www.thetemplatestore.com/help/tables.asp

Your top table is now showing properly. The problem I see now is that your text is bumping up against the black part of your page. I would put some space in there. You are likely seeing a cached copy of your work. Clear your caches in Netscape to see your latest changes.

Thank you, Sandy. That page helped. I added percentages and bigger transparent gifs - I think it's pretty much OK, but in now NN4 I'm missing some cells at the bottom. If you would be kind enough to take one more look to see what I'm missing, I would be very grateful. It's here now: www.mydog8it.com/template3.htm

Also, I wanted to add padding to that one cell as you suggested, but not the entire table, so I stuck a <style="padding: 10px"> inside the td tag for that cell. Is that the proper way to do that?
Thanks Joy

I am not familiar with the padding attribute so I'm not sure what to tell you. I would have nested a smaller table or made columns with blank .gifs for the space.

I cannot tell by the url what you might be missing. I see the copyright info and the jagged edge of the page?

It looks pretty good to me.
