CABLE? T1 LINE? DSL? - 12/13/2000 20:54:00
Hi, I have a client that I'm working with that has a small company but needs more speed. He's on a 56k modem line with computers networked throughout the small office (three computers.) + has a silent partner who works from home that uses PC Anywhere to get to the computers. Due to lack of speed using PC Anywhere, the silent partner would like to just be able to dial into a direct line that is all networked. My client is asking me for advice but I'm not that familiar with networking and the preferables and I figured that I can probably get some recommendations to help them out through here? What would be the best way to go for a small customer that doesn't want to or can't pay more then $100/month for all of this. Any suggestions? And if so, any companies that can be recommended. The company is located within the heart of the Silicon Valley in California. As usual, your advice is much appreciated. Thank you Suz

Well, the $100/month limit is going to eliminate the T!. Cable is faster than 56K, but not very easy to secure, and will depend on how many people are on his/her node. Sounds like DSL is the best solution. Check with the local ISP's...------------------ Gil Harvey No one ever says, "It's only a game", when their team is winning Internet Consulting - Web Development

i agree with gil. some isp's that offer a high speed solution such as dsl also offer a business solution that can be tailored to specific needs you may want to ask about that also. ------------------ storm... "No eternal reward will forgive us now for wasting the dawn"

Check with your local phone carrier. I have Pacbell in my area, and they offer several different plans for DSL with different bandwidths

Yep! Like Gil and Storm said.....DSL would be the way to go.... Just keep in mind that you they would need DSL at BOTH ends.....the Office and the silent partner's home to see a benefit for him....and even then PC Anywhere is NOT going to be as fast as sitting in front of the PC in the Office.
