Extensions for multiple sites; one server - 1/9/2001 17:05:00
server administrator has set up multiple sites on a single server with one i.p. address. I can publish Web A to one address (which he assures me is not on the root). When publishing Web B to the other web site, the following message is displayed. "The server you are publishing to does not have FP extensions installed and therefore cannot support published to an HTTP. FTP instead..."

He assures me that the server extensions are installed. But, he's unfamiliar with FP extensions. When I asked what the version was, he asked me where to look for the version number. I was thinking that maybean outdated version 1.2 may be causing the problem.

So, my question is, how do you set up server extensions when multiple sites are on the server?

Yep -gotta be installed for each site.

No that would return a different error - But, you mean to say the server admin doesn't know how to check the version of an application running on his server?

Each site needs the extensions enabled thru the MMC

The administrator successfully created two virtual webs and installed FP extensions on both. No web in root. Now the FP search engine returns results from both webs. How do we set it up to search the active web, and not both?

My situation is similar -- I have 4 virtual webs; all have FP extensions ('Check Server Extensions' = OK); none are in a disk root directory. We run NT4 and IIS 4.0 on the server and work on the webs with NT4 / FP2K.

(Two webs are for test/development, the others are backups and normally are not running).

I have set up search pages using each of the three options (Search Form Properties | Search Results tab; Scope of search results).

Selecting either 'Entire website' or 'This web' produces search hits from anywhere on the server system drive -- including the Program Files folder.

Selecting the 'Directory' option and specifying the folder of the current web produces no hits whatever.

Any thoughts, anyone?

One more thing:

Links produced by the Search forms have a strange and consistent error: in every case the link is of the form:

http:/[ IP address ]/2/...etc... where the entire string would be correct if it were not for the intrusive /2/.

That is, if I edit the failed URL and remove the '/2' characters, I then open up the correct page. ??????????????????

I am having the same problem, 2 sites on the same server. When opening the second web site, it gives me the error message of: The web server does not seem to have Front Page server extensions installed.

I used MMC and right clicked on the second site and selected configure server extensions. Then after the finishing the wizard, it tells me the document root of the web server where you are trying to install the server extensions already contains a disk-based web. Both of the web sites are in c:/inetpub/wwwroot/Site1 and c:/inetpub/wwwroot/Site2.

Any help would be appreciated.
