I just got finished installing IIS 5.1 on my XP Pro machine. It seems to be working except for one problem. No matter what I do, I can't seem to give my fpdb folder and my databases write access. Even if I go through Windows Explorer and set the permissions, I still cannot write to the db. I downloaded the newest version of MDAC (2.8), but that didn't help any. Thoughts?

Additionally, is it possible to set up email on my XP server for testing? In other words, I would like to be able to test email without actually being connected to the web so was wondering since I have IIS can I create an email account on my PC and send mail to it via my ASP pages.

Owner/Admin permissions required here. You should be logging an access error for every failed request. Look in the log files, see what's going on

IIS sets up three servers by default, HTTP. FTP, and mail. So it should be no problem

IIS only installs a virtual SMTP server, but either way, there shouldn't be a problem

Any thoughts on how I set up email accounts on the server? I have done a little work on IIS 4, but nothing substantial. I have no clue what the process is for creating and administering email accounts. Any help will of course be deeply appreciated.

I'll get back to you on that one

You can't. IIS alone is only an SMTP service--it does not support POP, IMAP or other protocols, nor can you create individual mailboxes. You would need to purchase an e-mail server (like MailMax or Smart Mail).
