Transfering a website from a slave to new hard drive - 2/4/2004 8:56:39
Sorry to ask but can someone please give me a step by step IDIOTS(me:)) guide on how to transfer a half finished site from a slave hard drive to my main drive. I have installed a copy of FP98 onto the new drive and assumed I would just be able to open up the old web but I can't. If it helps the site I want is currently in D:\FrontPage Webs\Content\uncoverdubai
Thanks a lot.
You guys did help me a couple of days ago but I got frustrated and uninstalled the whole shooting match in a paddy!!!:)

RE: Transfering a website from a slave to new hard drive - 2/4/2004 9:40:24
Thanks.
I've copied and pasted onto my C drive. I couldn't find anywhere to paste in FP98.
I then tried to import it into FP but a error message saying sometthing like C:\WINDOWS\Desktop\Content\uncoverdubai uses a server basedfront page web. To access you must use the http:// url for the web server.
It is a half finished site and has never been published.
Any ideas
Thanks
ps As you can probably guess I am not 'technically gifted'!!!

Not sure if this will work, its that long since I used 98:

Right Click On My Computer, Select Manage, Then Select Services, and Then Right Click On My Personal Web Server and Then Select Start.

As I have said, I'm not sure that will work

Dan, I think it's going to be a major problem 'cos I haven't got a personal web server installed. I've just tried to install it from Win98 disk and its not acepting it. I've got an engineer coming in on friday to look at my other systems so I'll get him to havea look. I'll let you know what he says for your info.
Thanks again for this afternoon.

You should be able to publish the site from one hard drive to another. Open it and publish it and then click "Browse" and then browse to a folder on your new hard drive.

But let me just say that I am opposed to slavery.

OK. after much head scratching and swearing I've managed to get the web server working. I've gone through the process of importing the site and its there in the folders view. So far so good BUT
It is not showing at all in the navigation view (just a standard 'home' page box) and it hasn't brought the boarders or graphics in when I open pages from the file menu
When I open the file up on the C drive its looks ok but when I import the whole file into FB its not right.
Should I be doing someting else

Try opening the web rather than the pages them selves

RE: Transfering a website from a slave to new hard drive - 2/6/2004 6:11:44
Thanks Giomanach
I've now sorted that problem but encountered another !!!
I'm trying to publish and am getting an error message saying
'server error. Client closed connection'
I've spoken to the isp who said there is no problem with the server their end.
They say this
"There should currently be no problems with the server and we have not had any other reports of problems - we have just tested the frontpage extensions on your account and are able to connect without any errors.

Please ensure that there are no firewall products running or internet sharing methods (such as proxy servers or routers) that could be blocking access to publishing - as these would often result in the error that you are experiencing. Alternatively if you have access to a different ISP or machine this may also be worth trying."

As far as I am aware I don't use either of tese so have you any ideas??
Thanks

Are you on a network or standalone? OR does that question not make any sense to you?

I have put FP on there in Italics, It is not a standard version number, and that could be your problem, uninstall that and then reinstall it, then try.

I've re-installed FP as recommended but am still getting Microsoft® FrontPage® Version 3.0.2.926.
Anything else I can try. I don't have access to another ISP or machine??

It would pay to, sometimes one of the updates is all you need, due tot he fact that web servers are always kept up to date purely for security reas9ons, if you are behind on updates, the server might register you as a hacker, and also the local PWS will also see something wrong, try running a windows update.
