cm.htm files - 2/8/2004 20:50:42
Does anyone know what cm.htm files are? I'm prompted to "save" them whenever I "save as" a page which contains Amazon ads (I'm an affiliate). Amazon, as well as it's associates, all say they do not get these htm files. Yet I have more than 100 of them in my web. Are cm.htm files created by FrontPage, or whatever. They are a pain, and that's putting it nicely! thanks. gail

I did a search on that name... http://www.google.com/search?q=cm.htm&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&start=0&sa=N A few were MS FP created, most where not. I even saw some DW pages that had it seemingly unintentionally. Sorry I failed to see a pattern when trying to figure this one out. If you like PM me the code and I can test with it to see if we can recreate it on another PC. Brian

Thanks Brian, I sent you the code. When I click on the cm.htm file, it is an actual Amazon ad. I have literally scores of these files, with no end in site, in my web. I've been overwriting them since the ad displays on the page where I place it, for example here: http://www.digicamhelp.com/camera-shop/other-digital-cameras.htm Interestingly enough, I asked other Amazon Associates if they have any cm.htm files and they said no. I didn't ask what program they used to create their sites. However, I'm wondering. I know of a couple of sales made through my site but Amazon has no record of them associated with my Associate ID, even though I forwarded them the sales information. As a result, I'm not getting any compensation for those sales. I didn't make one sale through the Christmas season so I'm got suspicious and made a test sale the other day from my site. It went through. Amazon support can't pinpoint a problem. Do you think it can be because I overwrote some cm.htm files, even though the actual ads still appear where I place them? In fact, before I ever thought about a possible connection today, I deleted an entire folder of cm.htm pages because Amazon told me they had nothing to do with their ads. This is maddening. I've put in countless hours setting up the ads prior to Christmas. Even used AdWords to get folks to my site. gail

Have had the same problems with the cm.htm files on my site CityTown.info. Not only that but the Amazon ads seem to mess up my meta tag generator from J-Bots Plus 2002. The tag generator want to add the meta tags to the cm.htm instead of to the page I am working on.
