Will this be better for the robots? - 2/11/2004 18:04:46
Hi all just finished developing the main part of our site but could do with some feedback if someone would be kind enough to view it? We have designed it this way so the robots can get direct access to the keywords. www.bigmusclesfast.com thanks in advance! Wayne

Hi there - a couple of quick points. IMHO the home page is too long. I had to do a lot of scolling to get to the bottom. Also I would ditch the yellow text highlights - it's much better to use bold if you want to draw attention to a specific area of text. Cheers Andy Oh - nearly forgot. The hyperlinks at the bottom are spaced too far apart. Narrowing the gaps will also shorten the total length of the page.

Wayne, I think with some minor tweaking, you could have a very nice, clean design. Take these with a grain of salt...these are my preferences and not necessarily anyone elses. 1. The impression I get with the web site is that it is trying to sell me something. It has that 'eBook' feel to it. However, only after reading a few paragraphs, did I find that your site seems to be for information purposes. I say this because, it seems like you are building the reader up to something, but there is nothing at the end, except more links. IMHO, if you are strictly going to be providing information, then I would definitely reorganize the content to provide a more compact display. By using some well placed tables, you could more readily highlight important information for your visitor. All too often, people DON'T read, they browse...or take in the highlighted points. If they want further details, provide them a link to get to that information. 2. I would explicitly set the font type and size on all pages. On the home page, I get Verdana size=2. On most other pages, it's Verdana size=3, and on the disclaimer page I get Times New Roman size=2. Don't assume that your visitors have the same default fonts on their browser, that you have on yours. To me, the differences in text greatly takes away from the credibility of the content. (I can manually adust the font size in my browser to 'smallest' and it looks much better.) Also, because my default font is larger, it really screws up your navigation area on the right site. 3. Set the 'Building Muscle with Knowledge and Effort!' text in your header to a size=2. On mine, it's about a size 3 and it really screws up the entire header. 4. Kill the spacing. Going back to my first point, if this site is for informational purposes, then keep the info compact and pertinent to the subject at hand. A consistent, smaller font will help, but I agree with Andy...the pages are just too long. Keep the most important info at the top of the page so the user doesn't have to scroll. (I'm guilty of this too) I know this may seem like a lot, but these are really minor issues that I believe would really help your site to stand out. Best of luck.
