multi-site server problems - 4/5/2001 20:48:00
I work with several sites with unique domain names but on the same server. Strangely some of them work great uploading from FrontPage but others are refused. They all have the same password.

When I try to open (edit) or upload site in FrontPage Message: The server you are publishing to does not have the FrontPage Server Extensions installed, and therefore does not support publishing via http.) Okay, they assure me that it is and I think I found something in an earlier posting to try on that part of the problem.

So, trying as ftp (in FrontPage, I get the message: “An unknown win/net error has occurred.”
Or (this is the weird part) -- says its listing pages, after a few minutes, says “This FTP server doesn’t support folder names that contain spaces. Rename the source web’s folder corresponding to “sitename/folder name”, and any other folders that have spaces in their names, and try again.”

Well, that's not my site (it is on the same server) and is not even remotely related to my own site or actions.

Help?

Annie - I use a free service (www.f2s.com) which offers FP Extensions but no adverts. Although I have activated the extensions I regulary get the same error message you do.

Over time I've become used to the weird happenings of their system - i.e. 'it may not work now, but it likely will an hour or so later'. Also, if I try to do any live updates in the evening, they never appear until the following morning, although they are immediate if I do it during the day time. I've assumed that they must be doing some work on the system, running some sort of process or something and hence access is being 'blocked' in some way...just a guess.

I don't know who your ISP is - if you pay for the service, then it sounds like you're getting a rought deal and need to continue to take it up with them. If it's free, well,... the case isn't so strong!

Are you using unique IP addesses on the same server? What kind of OS? What server software are you using? Are you using sub-domains for your different domains?

Details please..

Phil
