Server-Based Web vs. Disk-Based Web - 4/8/2001 20:22:00
I have been maintaining a server-based web, first on FrontPage 98, and now FrontPage 2000. Somehow, the server settings have become corrupted so that I am unable to save any pages that have been modified (I receive error messages such as "Network error" or "The server closed the connection)." I tried some housekeeping solutions such as repairing/reinstalling FrontPage but the problem persists.

I have converted the site from a server-based web to a disk-based web but I am wondering what functionality I have lost in doing so. I should mention that I have installed the FrontPage Server Extensions (version 4.0.2.4317). I downloaded the current version of PWS (4.0) from the Microsoft site but have not as yet installed it.

I think you're going to lose any webbots, ie forms, discussion forums, counters etc. Lots of times I find people ftping their disk based webs to their accounts and then wondering why their forms won't work and why they can't publish via HTTP. Best thing to do is whip out the entire site contents on the server, install server extensions fresh and then upload again BUT USE THE PUBLISH BUTTON and preferably HTTP and not FTP...
