Giomanach -> RE: Installing IIS on XP Home (2/16/2004 4:38:31)

I'm not saying that it won't work, but just for those who are curious: Originally XP Home was not designed to host anything at all, not even joining to a network. However, due to modern "hackers" ways round this have been found. But only do them at your own risk, system damage can be easily done if you are not confident enough to edit the stated files/folders. Also, with the guide given, system software clashes might occur due to the following: Win XP Pro/Win 2000 IIS installation files contain information that work on XP Pro/2000 only; XP Home was not designed to handle IIS, and the main controls for it, of which are found through Computer Management, may not be integrated via the IIS Snap-in. XP Home does not support DNS, it can be enabled, but it will not work as XP Home needs to be cracked to take networks beforehand. The XP Pro/2000 disc may cause a system crash when you install IIS from them, I suspect this as I tried to Install IIS from a Win XP Pro disc on a Win2K machine and the whole system locked up. When doing this and you have an XP Pro disc, why not just upgrade from Home To Pro, it will be much easier? If using a Win2k disc, ensure that you run the disc under compatibility mode to ensure the least possible number of risks being taken. Just looking out for you all Dan
