I'm not saying that it won't work, but just for those who are curious:
Originally XP Home was not designed to host anything at all, not even joining to a network. However, due to modern "hackers" ways round this have been found. But only do them at your own risk, system damage can be easily done if you are not confident enough to edit the stated files/folders.
Also, with the guide given, system software clashes might occur due to the following:
Win XP Pro/Win 2000 IIS installation files contain information that work on XP Pro/2000 only;
XP Home was not designed to handle IIS, and the main controls for it, of which are found through Computer Management, may not be integrated via the IIS Snap-in.
XP Home does not support DNS, it can be enabled, but it will not work as XP Home needs to be cracked to take networks beforehand.
The XP Pro/2000 disc may cause a system crash when you install IIS from them, I suspect this as I tried to Install IIS from a Win XP Pro disc on a Win2K machine and the whole system locked up.
When doing this and you have an XP Pro disc, why not just upgrade from Home To Pro, it will be much easier?
If using a Win2k disc, ensure that you run the disc under compatibility mode to ensure the least possible number of risks being taken.

I wouldn't try these hacks myself.
There is probably a licensing violation involved when you take .dll's from W2K/XP and copy them to XP Home too.

XP Home networks just fine. The NETBUI protocol just doesn't install as a default. As G said it doesn't support some of the features of a TCP/IP network, but TCP/IP was designed as a WAN protocol, like the internet. If you want a LAN for printer and file sharing, XPHome is fine. It is not fine for things like web serving, DNS, IIS and the like.

I used a similar set of instructions a year ago on XP home and it worked OK. I can't find the message since the forums have been shuffled a little. I did upgrade to XP Pro for other reasons, and there seem to be no lasting effects.
This was a stand-alone machine used for local development, not something in a network.

So if Im understanding you all correctly I can upgrade to XP Pro and add 2nd hard drive configure xp properly and and run my own web server off this hard drive without spending 399.00 for windows web server package?
