Frontpage website on Linux server - 4/10/2001 20:33:00
I hope i am posting in the right place. I was going to try to learn about web servers and try to setup and win nt web server but after realizing it would cost me about 4k to buy everything i need from microsoft to run one. so i decided i could probably run a linux server and put my frontpage website on it. what i am wondering is if this is at all possible. ? i am trying to start a small personal web site design co. and offer web hosting for very cheap to my customers .. so if anyone couldhelp me it would be VERY much appreciated.. and there was one other thing i was wondering about.. someone told me instead of buying a firewall i can just install 2 nic's in my server and it will be even better than a firewall.. anyone ever hear of this method.. ? thanks and any help it greatly appreciated

Well, using Linux & Apache is by far the less expensive way, not to mention the most stable.

I guess my question would be how do you justify a T1 (minimum) @ $750+/month -vs- a reseller account with a hosting company?

A firewall on a web server is kind of a waste - a web server by nature has to be open for anyone to access, so what's the point? You'll need at least two NICs anyway - 1 to the router CSU/DSU and one to your local network (development machine(s), admin machine, etc.
