Server IIS question - 4/11/2001 20:28:00
I'm running IIS 5 with appx 50 Frontpage webs, 20 virtual directories, and less than 10 FTP's on it....Is there any easy way to document all these settings and configuration? I have it all documented on a paper, but there's got to be a better way... What happens if the server completely crashes (pretend I don't have Raid 5 and daily backups) ??? How would I re-create all the webs, etc ???? Thanks for any tips....

pcguy don't take this the wrong way but even if your not running raid 5 mirrored....if your server crashes and you don't have a current backup thats your fault.that being said one thing you can do is take screens shots of all the configuration settings for each of the different sites or make an access database and document everything i used the screen shoot deal last night, had to rebuild a BDC, took screen shots of the pertinent config areas printed them, stuck them in a binder then used it for the rebuild. ------------------ storm... I realize you can document everything manually - that's how I'm doing it too (screen shots, etc) I was wondering if there was a tool that would "dump" a text file of everything...(hey, I could make some money developing that one)....Yes, it would be my fault if the server crashed - no matter what. That's why I have Raid 5 and daily backups. If one of the 5 drives go down, I can install a new one (hotswap) and rebuild it. My question was really just asking if anyone knew of another way to document IIS's settings... Thanks-

Storm,No, Although I've modified a lot of Perl scripts - I woouldn't say I know it... I would think all the config info is in the registry. I'll have to do some research on this... Thanks-
