Forms troubles - is it the server? - 5/2/2001 20:16:00
None of my forms seem to work at: http://www.ihost-websites.com

Confirmation page - when I submit I only get errors (and I made sure that the URL http://www.ihost--websites.com/confirmation.htm was entered when creating the form)

Email results- also just get errrors

Could it be server problems? (contacted them to reinstall FP extensions but stil same errors).

Your thoughts appreciated!

Thank you

Herman

www.ihost-websites.com is running Apache/1.3.6 (Unix) PHP/4.0.4pl1 mod_perl/1.21 mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.2b on Linux.

Looks like there are no FP extensions installed for your domain.....

Thanks for your response.

Are you sure?

I contacted the tech support of my host and he assures me that FP extensions are installed.

What else can I do?

Thank you

Herman
PS I duplicated the site and published to another server and it works OK , mmm...

I still get errors when publishing. Tech support from webhost says others do not have the problem and suggests to FTP the site.

How do I do this?
Does this mean I have to upload each page one at a time?

What are the steps?

Thnk you

Thanks for the feedback Gil,

I trust your word on this, however how does one find these things out? Is there a particular tool or site that checks this?

Thank you

Could you give me a clue as to what or where I should read at the web site you suggested to see if a site has FP extensions or not.

Thanks for your patience

Type in your URL in the box on the left - click on "Examine" and you'll get a report on what version of what OS, etc your server is running

Hello,

I can't believe this!! I just signed onto this server, GrandCentralHosting, sunk $200 of volunteered money and my own volunteer time to find out that they don't have FP extensions. But how can that be, I was able to Publish the Web there, I am able to update links. Things that I didn't think you could do without the extensions. Is it possible that there extensions are working properly?

My forms are not working properly. I have the results being emailed back to me and when I try to submit the form I get this error:

FrontPage Error.
User: please report details to this site's webmaster.

Webmaster: please see the server's system log for more details.

My counter wasn't working either, but I found another counter from bCentral.

If anyone has any advice or input, I'd appreciate the response. The link to the form is
http://www.smithtownelementarypta.org/pta_volunteer_sign_up.htm

Thanks for your help.

Hi Tracy,

Does NOT look like the FP extensions are installed for your domain... See below.

The site www.smithtownelementarypta.org is running Apache/1.3.6 (Unix) PHP/4.0.6 mod_perl/1.21 mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.2b on Linux.

Also did you request FP extensions while opening the account?

http://www.grandcentralhosting.com/web_hosting_features/index.shtml#FrontPage_Server_Extensions
Grand Central Hosting provides FrontPage 2000 extensions free to all accounts who request them during the initial set up of the account. FrontPage functionality can be added later but there will be an administrative charge for changing the account.

Hi,

I've been noticing lately that some of these sites that check for FP extensions don't seem to be accurate. I've checked several of my sites, and some (but not all) that are with a certain host don't show the extensions, even though they are installed on all of the sites, and everything's working perfectly. It seems to depend on the particular server the domain is on, and what info it's delivering.

I think I've read the same thing in other posts. One of the sites that I used to use to check extensions seemed to be accurate, but it's not up anymore.

Anyone else noticing this?

Rian or Gil,

I have been to the netcraft web site and typed in the url of some of my clients' sites, but I don't see how you can tell if FP extensions are installed or not??

I have two client sites that used to work fine but now the forms don't work. Can you tell if the FP extensions are present?

Thanks for your help!

From www.netcraft.com

1. The site www.lakelandgm.com is running Microsoft-IIS/5.0 on Windows 2000

2. The site www.lionsdenhair.com is running Microsoft-IIS/4.0 on NT4/Windows 98

Seems to indicate no extensions. If they were there you would see something like: FrontPage/4.0.4.3 in addition to the above.

As Ginnie pointed out these look ups may not always be accurate - but combined with the fact that you are experiencing a problem with your sites I would think this is an accurate report.

What error messages are you getting on the forms?

OK just tried a form and am getting - "Cannot run the FrontPage Server Extensions' Smart HTML interpreter on this non-HTML page"

There are a number of articles in the MS knowledge base about this - search for a phrase above here to find them all: http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp

It appears you are trying to use the FP form handler on a ASP page? It will not work on ASP pages, only HTML pages.

Katherine,

Thanks for taking a look for me! I have got the Knowledge Base article that pertains to that error message, so now I'll try to fix it. Thanks again!
