Windows 2000 Professional and SMTP Service - 2/21/2004 18:44:09
Hi

I'd like to know if anyone else out there has mastered getting the SMTP service to run on IIS without screwing with their MX record...?

Is it possible...?

The SMTP service will only work if you use a thrid party Email program, like SmarterMail/MailMax/Mail Enable

I was worried you'd say that.

Any suggestions as to which one is best and whether it will work with the FrontPage extensions as that's what I really need.

They all work if you have IIS4+ installed, no need to worry about FPSE with it. MailMax you have to pay for, and I find quite difficult to use. SmarterMail you can use for free with one domain and upto ten addresses at that domain, and with MailEnable, it's free, and you can have as many domains and email addresses as you like, but you need DNS to be configured properly for it to work.

I recommend either Mail Enable or SmarterMail.

Here is a plug for MailEnable. Easy to install, easy to use.
