Gil, help me set file permissions on an nt server - 5/8/2001 20:13:00
my host apparantley does not know how to set the file permissions. NT doesn't accept the chmod that linux does, and the only instructions are written for linux via chmod

the only way to do this remotely is with a pc anywhere type product or if your running w2k through terminal services.as for myself i'd say it's time for a new host. i don't know how they could have even stood the boxes up and got sites to run in iis if they didn't know how to set permissions. ------------------ storm... The commandline tool in NT/W2K is CACLS.If they don't know how to do that ... get the hell out ... most likely you're going to do something like: cacls folder /t /e /g iusr_machine:?? where ?? is the type of permissions you want to grant (F=Full, C=Change, R=Read, etc) ------------------ Applied Innovations http://www.appliedi.net/ FrontPage Web Hosting

NO KIDDING!!!As the admin of 3 NT servers at work, I get really pissed when I hear people say that they have 2 years NT experience or something like that, and still don't know how to add a user or set a permission... My guess, is that they had problems installing the FP extensions and just don't want to deal with it anymore. The first time I tried to install the extensions on one of our servers, I ran into a ton of problems... Finally just gave up as the only person that was using FP2000 was one of the guys here at work, and he got the site for free. Just got a couple of hosting customers that want to use FP2000 extensions, so it was back to trying to get them going. Ended up jumping through 5 hoops and jumping on one foot just to get them to install correctly. (I say correctly, but if you read my other post you will see they are still having probs). Amazes me how a M$ program running on a M$ OS still has SOOOO many problems. Sad sad sad... 'nof ranting.... John

John, what type of problems are you still having? I will look for the posts you can email me directly if you like. Also did you look at the frontpage site you should be able to find an article that tells you what type of permissions you need for FPSE to run correctly.
